TAKE ONE STEP BACKWARDS. TAKE TWO STEPS FORWARD

So here we are! June 2015 it is! The start of fresh beginnings and here is to hoping to attract a following of new and old with my endeavors and personal adventures looking ahead.

After my past blog page “Freedom Trail Warrior” and Face Book page “Clint’s Biking Antics and Adventures“, I decided to take a short time-out to recuperate my tired body and mind, to get some recovery time in as I felt I was starting to lose a little focus on my passion. I was just taking one step backwards so I could take two steps forward and start a whole new chapter, look and feel, of which I did and so welcome to AFRIVENCE – The Pursuit of Purpose!

As some will know, and some will come to know, I love my mountain biking and probably in a different way to others. I also love a little photography from time to time. In the many years of cycling and past 4 years at least, I have attempted some pretty big races, some with successes and some with failures but in the end all worth the experience.

Some of those races I will be repeating during the course of the year and next, but my biggest race will be the Freedom Challenge Race Across South Africa in 2016 again – Well! that is the plan. Having attempted this in 2014 and which ended prematurely 11 days in, my quest is to go back and attempt it again and hopefully amidst all the risks, succeed!

I will also be attempting to raise charity funds again in my private capacity for Deaf kids and yes will be rallying for support in this – So! if you feeling generous, please make contact with me! If you would like to know more about the fund raising and wish to get involved, please visit:

As some will know and come to know, I was born deaf. Doing what I love, which is cycling wherever and whenever I can amidst juggling work and family time is what I love to do. The story is not really about me and I wish not to exploit any notion of it but rather it is a hope to inspire others to do what you love and in that you could be an inspiration for some if not all. In the process you could also make a difference to someones life.

Being Deaf has its advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage is the mere fact that it can teach you that you are stronger and more adaptable than you think you are. Being Deaf and the life journey I am on with my disability has always been interesting, exhilarating, depressing, quiet, challenging, lonely, exciting, frustrating, educational, noisy, stressful, eventful, cautious, risky and adventurous. In all these processes, it has allowed me personal, emotional and spiritual growth. Over the years being blessed with supportive people as well as being better off than most in my “disabled situation, having taught myself to lip-read, adapt to my situations and adopt a ‘never give up attitude’ towards challenges.

I have had many personal successes in my life as well as some failures. Yet, whichever way it was, there was always perseverance and purpose. With the intentions and wish to attempt the Freedom Challenge RASA 2016, and with your assistance and generosity, I wish to use it as a tool to hopefully inspire others that no matter what your situation or disability is, nothing is impossible if you have perseverance and purpose to push yourself along.

After a defining life event around the end of 2013 I found myself opening a new chapter in my personal journey of life and pondering more on what our purpose is. Amongst all our challenges and frustrations as human beings, it does not matter what your race, colour, status or creed is. It does not matter what your ability or disability is. We all have a gift and with that gift you can always make a difference in this world if you choose to identify it, channel it, nurture it and use it.

Putting together the title for my new Blog and Facebook page composition, I formulated the  title AFRIVENCE which I believed summed up everything in my life, my experiences and my goals to date.

AFRIVENCE – was self abbreviated from the french words -“engagement et la persévérance” – which means “African Perseverance”

The key elements between either success or failure and trying again has been perseverance and purpose. This brought me to what is our purpose?

We don’t always know our purpose but I believe if you figure our your passion, it could well lead you to finding your purpose…
